Slave Ship
We see or at least I hope everyone who sees this painting as a masterpiece. But why did the critics think of it as a mess. Why does a painting turner designed to make people weep instead make people think of it as gruesome, disturbing, and just not good.
The year is 1781 and the Brittish slave trader The Zong is making a routine very profitable trip from Africa. But a problem arose. The African were dieing at an alarming rate much high than usual This has become a business disaster for The Zong. He knew the slaves were insured but not for death but lost at sea. So we went below deck to where the slaves were and selected which were about to become "Losses at Sea." 132 Africans men women and children were thrown over into the shark infested waters in the most shameful act of British history.
Frosty Morning
Farmers are just digging a hole. But is it a hole or is it a grave we will never understand what turner wanted them to be burying. Trees and grasses are all dead a Oman possibly. Who really knows. Turner and his magnificent talent made the painting to seem to have a melancholy feel to it so i'll let you decide what you think the hole is for.
The Fighting Temeraire
Beautiful piece of work. A small little steam powered tug boat carrying along a warship being sent to be broken down, old and useless. This painting is not about giving up but the exact opposite, perseverance. Being sent to its death the majestic vessel takes one last awe inspiring voyage. But the most beautiful part of this painting has to be the horizon. Not only is it beautifully crafted but it is open to so much interpretation. Are you happy, having a great day or has it been a rough day leaving you depressed? Say you are grieving for a loving one then the sun is setting on the life of one. But say you just started a thriving business then the sun is rising on your new empire.
Hannibal and his Army Crossing the Alps
A beautiful portrait of perseverance, pain, and pride. The real victims are Hannibal's men. The stragglers being picked off by mountain men. As they try and make the painful voyage across the alps. As a storm comes. The thing I love about this painting is the storm stalking it prey like a bird of prey. But why do people love this painting. I would say it is because it a beautifully crafted piece of work full of symbolism and triumph.
Death on a Pale Horse
In his time of sickness Turner took some medicine that aggravated his already overactive imagination. In his moments of hallucination saw a pale horse riding to him with death on its back. When Turner came to he painted a awe inspiring piece of work. But what death is limp. Death is dead. Turner is free to live and paint on; he has beaten death.
